On March 11, 2011, Disaster Struck Japan

Japan has a long history with earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and even nuclear disasters. Japan was well prepared in a lot of ways to handle the Natural Disasters that hit them on 3/11/2011, and fell short in man made disaster prevention in a lot of other ways. Many regions in their country are devastated, and the full extent of the damage may not be understood for years to come. According to cbsnews.com, more then 3,000 people are reported dead with that number expecting to rise above 10,000. A true issue for the Japanese seems to be their nearly half a million people still displaced from their homes. Some properties were destroyed by the initial earthquake. Most of Japan was flattened by the bulldozer waves that rolled in with the tsunami. 
As you can see, natural disasters tend to trigger other natural disasters increasing the devastation and even triggering man made disasters, like the nuclear meltdown that was a consequence of the earthquake and tsunami.
